Wrekin Writers Workshop

October 13 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

free

10.00am till 12.30pm

The Wrekin Writers are delighted to be presenting another Wellington Arts Festival meeting and workshop. This is a chance for anybody to come along and join in with the fun, support and inspirational writing techniques that have kept this local writing group flourishing for decades. The meeting will include an opportunity for anyone to present a short piece of inspirational writing. This can be your own work or work by others that has inspired you. Also, you may like to compete in a writing challenge. The challenge to bring to the meeting will need to include the word ‘Wellington’ at some point and should be a stand-alone piece of writing, or poetry, created by you using one hundred and fifty words or less.

After the meeting section there is a writing workshop designed to help you select some market goals for your work and then to encourage you to create smart plans to achieve these. The meeting and workshop are being led by the chairman of the Wrekin Writers, Darren Bailey.

We would be pleased to welcome any adults to this session especially those with an interest in creative writing.

This event is free to attend and may be popular. To reserve places please use the same system as other events on the Wellington Arts Festival program, alternatively you can visit www.wrekinwriters.co.uk or phone Darren Bailey on 01952 405 178.

1.30pm till 4.00pm

Short Story Success Workshop by Julie Phillips

This is a fun, productive and practical workshop taking you through the process of writing, editing and submitting short stories to magazines and competitions. Looking at structure, characters, dialogue, theme, setting and potential markets, this workshop will get you writing, whether you are a complete novice or want to improve your publication rate. The skills you will learn and practise can also be translated to many other genres of writing, making this workshop useful for all writers.

Writing Magazine columnist Julie Phillips, from Telford, has had many articles and short stories published in magazines such as Take a Break Fiction Feast, The Weekly News and That’s Life/That’s Life Fast Fiction (Australia). She has also helped judge the BBC Radio 2, 500 words children’s short story competition and the Doris Gooderson Short story competition. She is also the author of a book for writing groups, and four historical non-fiction books with a fifth on the way for Pen and Sword Books.

We would be pleased to welcome any adults to this session especially those with an interest in creative writing.
